Who grades / evaluates the Installers on the hands-on test?
A team of qualified evaluators grade the work product of the installer's hands-on test. Evaluators are senior level, experienced tile contractors, journeyman tile setters, apprentice instructors, or other experienced members of the tile industry. It will eventually be a requirement for ACT evaluators to hold an ACT certification in the area for which they are serving as evaluator.
Who keeps track of ACT certified installers?
Utilizing the existing data base structure of IMI and CTEF, The ACT advisory board maintains a listing of Installers who have successfully completed each of the ACT certifications. This information will be available to designers, contractors, and end users. :
Tile installers who are pre-qualified may take the ACT test for Shower Receptors. Installers pre-qualify for this test in one of two ways:
- A tile installer who has successfully completed the Certified Tile Installer (CTI) test administered by the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation; or
- A tile installer who has achieved the rank of journeyman tile setter through successful completion of the apprenticeship training program conducted by the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.
The ACT Shower Receptors installation certification is intended to demonstrate that the certified installer has the knowledge and hands-on skills to successfully complete a TCNA Handbook method B415 shower installation. Installers who pass the written and hands-on tests are designated ACT certified Showers specialists and receive a certification document that can be given to customers to verify the installer's expertise.
The Study Guide for Shower Receptors offers details on the scope of knowledge and skills needed to achieve ACT certification in Showers.
